Hi felicityhappiness, the chance that a person with 95 percentile in Quant ending up with 45 percentile in DI is almost void unless

    • the time categorization for different sections of the exam is not crafty.( i mean u should have spent more time in Quant instead of sparing the time optimally)
    • probably should have taken up DI at the end and succumbed to the pressure of time out.
    • in the process of answering too many questions (as DI seemed to be easy in 2008) ended up misinterpreting the crucial data given.(this happened with most of the students of your status)

Anyway, you know the mistakes that promoted this score in DI and I personally think that you don’t lack the knowledge (from your Quant Percentile) instead you lack the management of time and concentration levels.

So try to hold your concentration levels till the end of the exam and that is very important. In order to do this you have to master a very important technique.

Most of the students who are good in subject knowledge, after coming out of the exam hall, they find that they could have scored another 20% extra had they made some minute changes in their strategies.

If a brain is working under a two dimensional environment out of which it is comfortable with one environment and struggling with the other then it is common that it will perform mistakes in the environment which it is comfortable with bcoz it use 80% of its ability to fight with the uncomfortable environment.

Probably in your case the uncomfortable zone is “Answer as many questions as possible” and the comfortable zone is “Subject Knowledge”.Since somewhere subconsciously you have tuned your brain to answer as many questions as possible, it is investing most of its ability in that because of which it is compromising on its subject knowledge because of which silly mistakes creep in.

So tune your brain to the point that “you are only brain working in a single variable environment where the rest 3 lakh brains are working under at least two variable environments…in some case it could be 3 as well .

Also, as must be aware by now….most of us quickly gaze through the entire section (at least Quant) before answering it. This is very important. But at the same time this is also one those factors that will subconsciously force your brain to answer fast. So striking a balance here is quite important.

So this is how you can retain your concentration levels for a longer duration.

Coming to FMS and XAT, standard-wise they are supposed to be relatively easier compared with CAT. In FMS you must be comfortable in answering those very big RCs and Quant will be a cake walk for people of your calibre.

I think you can go through “DI by Arun Sharma” to quickly revise the DI basics and also get some practice as well.
