i’m in first year engineering. i didnt score well in my 12th ( 78pc ) but i joined a good college in blore. i wanted to know if my 12th marks will count in the CAT and if i can still get into an iim. i also want to know when is the right time to start preparing for CAT and how i should go about it.

Not all IIMs consider your 12th percentage. As such your percentage is competitive enough to fetch you an admission into IIMs provided you crack CAT and Post CAT activities.
It is nice to see that you are thinking about CAT right from the first year of your graduation. Start preparing right from now, as CAT is supposed to be the toughest management entrance exam in the world. Since you have ample time, plan out for other exams like XAT, FMS, JMET etc; Also see that you are striking a balance among your academics, CAT preparation and extra curricular activities.
Do not worry about your 12th percentage as it is much better than that of my friends graduated from IIMs.

If you are thinking of IIMs. Then your 12th percentage matters nothing here. Only they see your rank in CAT. But some colleges with ranking less than IIMs may ask for 12th percentage, if your ranking inCAT is low. But don;t be worry. A good ranking in CAT exam will not create any trouble for you. So, hope for the best and prepare well. B+.....
Thank you so much for ur advice. The only reason i asked about my 12th marks is because i read somewhere that iim-b considers 12th and 10th marks. I want to know if they consider it at all iims. Also – does the pattern for CAT vary every year?
