Hi sir, I am planning to crack the CAT this year. I have started my prep this week. Frankly speaking i’m weak IN qaunts,that too i’m preparing only from my friend’s book and from online CAT prepartions websites. SO MY QUESTION IS CAN, I SCORE A GOOD PERCENTILE IN CAT EXAM. IF NOT PLEASE SUGGEST ME WHAT SHOULD I HAVE TO DO. I WILL THANKFUL TO YOU

to score a good percentile, you will have to work on your concepts and exam temperament; i would suggest that you purchase good material yourself, and make a good plan for studying for cat

Ananya,

Its a little early – but yes, there have been people who prepared way in advance and did really well in the CAT. You can start with increasing your reading speed – this is one part which is very time consuming.

I guess, if you can finish the CAT syllabus in 6 months and then focus only on tests, you should get a really good percentile when you actually appear for the CAT.

Dear Ananya,

As Avinash said it is a bit early but at the same time I feel you will have sufficient time to crack CAT. Most of the students started preparing for the CAT in their 2 year of B.Tech and I remember that this culture has started in 2006 itself. All the premier institutes have special batches for these students and normally they conduct classes twice a week initially.

So, definitely it’s a good idea to start your preparation now but joining a coaching institute is something which depends upon your ability. I would like you to test your CAT test taking skills by taking the online tests available here and based on you performance you can take a decision on this aspect.

Start with taking the 2008 CAT Paper – it’s online and on LearnHub.

It will help you identify you weakness and you can then focus on building both concepts and exam temperament.

For preparing for the exam, you should work on complete the course and take as many tests as possible. Best of luck!

Since you have already joined our CAT Prep Community please start with the lessons and tests in the community. Also ensure that you are going through this community regularly. Let us look at a bigger picture now.

Are you considering to join any coaching institutes? Most of the students who make it into the top B-Schools are trained by corporate institutes like TIME, CL IMS etc, I suggest you to join one of them if it is feasible. If not at least try to get into correspondence coaching (all these institutes offer that) so that you will have lot of material to practice. So in order to finish this material you will obviously get into some strict plan.

Even if you join these coaching institutes you will still have personal doubts regarding Test Preparation which these institutes are never bothered. It is here you can get in touch with our Learnhub’s Expert Team

Besides CAT, you must also consider other exams like XAT, IIFT, FMS and SNAP to get into the next level top B-Schools. Just keep watching our CAT Prep Community as I am going to come up with an articles on all these exams very shortly.

This book is really good and matches the CAT standard pretty well.The same author has written a book named How to prepare for CAT DI. hi.. sir i attemptd cat 2 times without any prep & both time i ws able secure around 90%ile(highest being 93.51).. so i feel there is smthin in me & this year i m very serious about cat.. i need u to mentor me this 5 months 2 cat.. wishin u won’t dishearten me

i’d suggest that you follow a 2 step proceedure:

1. complete the cat course in 3-4 months

2. take as many tests as possible, so that you are not afraid of the actual CAT paper and you perform to the best of your ability

Hi Sir,

I am stuck at a point in my CAT ‘09 preparation.. It would be really nice if you could guide me about the kind of strategy i should adapt at this stage of my CAT preparation.. I would certainly like you to know where i stand : - Quant – I hav completed 80% of the syllabus, and i am yet to revise - DI – I guess m done with the common types, and yet to revise.. - Verbal – its hard to say where I stand, its very discrete kinda section, where i either know or i don’t, there is a very less scope for analytical approach…

sir could you please help me formulate a strategy n lemme know how should I tread ahead..

Hi,

In order to assess your present skills the best way is to take a full length test. In fact you can do this by taking the CAT 2007 Full Length Test available on Learnhub.

After taking this full length test, analyze your performance and see where you stand, whether your 80% of preparation levels are up to the mark, how many hours per week do u need to plug in for CAT preparation, important topics and your strengths in these topics etc;

After this, you can formulate the study plan for yourself because study plan is something which is always relative. In fact I can help you once you provide me the complete details after taking the tests
