The 'unpredictable CAT' (Discussion)

Kunal_Gupta saidTue, 29 Jul 2008 12:51:04 -0000 ( Link )

The CAT exam, conducted by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), has always been branded ‘unpredictable’.Over the years many aspirants have found out that trying to predict the unpredictable is truly an exercise in futility.CAT is one of the most competitive exams ,also, it is the most unpredictable of all the tests. Formula work and rote learning don’t help to a greater extent when you are dealing with something like the CAT.If there is something typically CAT-like, it is only the ever-changing test structure. My personal view on this is that exams structure should be made more rigid and predictable as the current one confuses the aspirants and even after giving CAT for two consecutive years students are in a state of ambiguity in their next attempt.

IN this particular case i dont agree with you kunal! in this competitive test, only the fittest can survive. Even in the attempt i gave, number of questions increased leaving just 3/4th time per question that we were imagining and i found so many guys and gals actually getting crazy.. but nothing changed. still many scored 100, others 99 percentiles….

THE GOLDEN RULE SPECIALLY IN CAT’S CASE IS

THEY WANT MANAGERS AND NOT STUDENTS. THEY WANT ALREADY TRAINED AND WELL POLISHED STUFF NOT RAW ONE. ;)

unpredictability of CAT is what makes it unique and innovative. that’s why only really intelligent candidates with basic concept clarity would be able to crack it.

    i agree with you rk!
but as far as basic concepts clarity is concerned,i dont agree with you as such. more than basics clarity and intelligency, what you need to crack cat is – good knowledge about taking the test.

as we earlier agreed in this dicussion that the real and common knowledge and feature of any CAT is its unpredictability. the nature of questions demands better thinking ability, under severe time constraints, on part of the candidates by using the basic known concepts studied at 10th-12th standard school levels. hence, though good knowledge about any test is a generally desirable thing, but it works only to a limited extent in the case of CAT. Gaurav, i hope u get my point.
