The IIMs gave an extension of 10 days for the registration for online CAT exam. Now, for the first time in recent years, the number of applicants for the CAT Test has taken a 17 per cent dip . The total number of applications registered for CAT 2009 is 2,41,000 while the number of applicants last year’s CAT exam was 2.90,000.
“This year, candidates probably noticed the effect on salaries and employment due to economic slowdown,” explained Satish Deodhar, the convener of Online CAT 2009 and faculty at IIM Ahmedabad. “Until last year, thousands of CAT applications used to get rejected due to incomplete information. This year there have been no CAT application rejections on the grounds of incomplete information,” he says.
