| The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad
(IIM-A) has outdone the famous American
Ivy League school Stanford University by scoring the highest
GMAT score in the world! Indian students
enrolled in the Post Graduate Program in Management for Executive
(PGPX) at IIM-A
scored the highest average in score of 728 among the successful
candidates in GMAT, Stanford University
came in with the second highest score of 725. The score of IIM-A has shot up from 694.42 in 2006. IIM-A was followed by the Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad's one year program which recorded an average GMAT score of 71 4 for the 2008-2009 batch, ranking as third in the world. In 2006-07, the average GMAT score of ISB was 707, rising to 701 in 2007-08. |
hi. i am an NRi student. Though i did my undergraduation from india, i am currently in Dubai, working. Can i apply to the IIM's with a GMAT score?? As that would be easier to write then preparing for CAT at the moment. Awaiting a response at the earliest..
The number of students getting into IIMs through GMAT is very low.
Well i have come across 2-3 NRIs who have taken GMAT route to get into IIMs, so you can use that
But you need to have a GMAT score of 650 plus and should have adequate stay abroad. you can try IIML for this, it takes quite a big chunk every year
All the IIMs and XLRI have a quota for Non Resident Students every year. However, it is important to prove your inability to take the CAT e.g. extended stay overseas. ISB on the other hand only accepts the GMAT, so you are safe.
Applications to each of the institutions must be made independently and fees paid in US$ (extremely low when compared to fees at international schools).
The best way to contact any of the NRI students at such schools is to write to them and ask for details of their NRI students. Alternatively, if you are able to establish contact with a resident Indian student at these schools, he/she should be able to guide you to international students at their schools. Current students, I find are the most helpful in such students.
While at the IIMs, you can also add a term at one of the other
leading global business schools on exchange as many of them have
exchange agreements with top US/European B Schools.

i am curretly studying for CA and i will be done in May 2013 so i am planning to appear for GMAT as we can freeze the scores for 5years so i can carry on with MBA as soon as i become a CA..all i want to know is can i do managament in finance with the GMAT score if i am planning to for IIM..

If you are considering a Management degree after 2013, I would
recommend you wait for another year and then take the test for the
very reason that the consideration of timeline of the test scores
in
terms of when it was taken is unpredictable.
Also, if you are considering IIM, please note the IIMs accept GMAT for their EMBA programs (mainly IIM Banglore, Indore & Ahmedabad) and maybe so,me other specific programs, otherwise they consider CAT. Also, since you are considering MBA right after the completion of the CA, though IIM A still accepts applications while still in the final year of Bachelors, as per recent information available, IIM Bangalore might come up with the requirement of work experience as one of the eligibility criteria for a Management degree. Also, I would recommend you earn some practical experience as well since majority of the B-schools in India consider the same as one of the eligibility criteria for Management degree.
Ensure you have a regular Bachelors degree since most of the B-schools specify the minimum qualification as Bachelors degree or its equivalent.
